In my never ending quest to help convert people to Linux I'm going to get a Dell Inspiron 6000 Model - PP12L, and plan on installing Mint 17 32-bit with the Cinnamon GUI. The machine is from around 1985, 2Gb RAM, which is the max, and a Intel Pentium M processor. The HDD is listed with a massive 100Gb. LOL!
According to the minumum specs for Mint 17, the install should work. However, are there any additional tweaks that I should look to implement? Personally, I have a H-P Ultrabook, that has a SSD, which I've tweaked. Also, there were a few other things that I have used to work Firefox caching, and other things to speed up my OS.
I'm looking for any suggestions, and thanks in advance for responses.I am going crazy trying to get my ethernet controller drive downloaded.
In device manager I am getting yellow question marks and yellow !s under other devices which lists:

I've tried to update the driver, nothing found. tried to uninstall and then restart, it finds the hardware but cannot find a driver for it.
I've gone to dell to try and get it, but it doesn't work. Tried broadcom, didn't work.
I did replace the motherboard in this about 6 months ago, but never tried to use the ethernet port before.
Wireless works fine.
Now my new internet provider uses a netgear router and requires me to connect with the ethernet to create the initial setup. Also, I have been unable to connect at work with wireless and I notice they use netgear routers as well.
